Eight members of Secure Trust Bank's Commercial Finance team have raised over £5,000 for The Christie Charity, smashing their original target of £2,500 by taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge.
The group (comprising Will Airey, John Copping, Paul Goodchild, James Hodkinson, David James, Alex MacDonald, Scott Swinden and the very appropriately named Jeremy Uphill) climbed the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales, all within 24 hours.
Leaving Secure Trust Bank's Manchester office on Tuesday 11 June, they embarked on a six-and-a-half hour drive to Ben Nevis and officially started the challenge at 4:40pm.
Facing treacherous weather conditions, the intrepid bunch tackled the Scottish leg of the challenge by 9:30pm and were ready for more.
Having driven through the night to reach Scafell Pike in the Lake District, their next climb started at 4:15am on Wednesday 12 June against a backdrop of gale force winds and hailstones. They continued on their noble mission and, with sore legs and high spirits, scaled England's highest mountain and drove on to Snowden in Wales. The ascent began at 12:45pm and whilst the target finish time appeared optimistic, a march to the finish line saw them cross at 4:30pm with ten minutes to spare.
Having walked 23 miles, ascended 10,052ft and driven 462 miles, the team of eight are proud of the huge sum they've raised for The Christie Charity. It's among the largest hospital charities in the UK and one of eleven staff elected charities being supported by STB Group employees during 2019.
