Guide dogs lead way at Shire Leasing
Tamworth-based Shire Leasing opened its doors to its four-legged friends in September 2019, raising more than £450 for the local branch of Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
This takes the company’s tally to more than £3875 raised for local causes and charities in 2019 alone, as it bids to encourage staff to nominate causes close to their heart and run initiatives to help raise much-needed funds. Last year, Shire Leasing raised £5585 for charities and are hoping to beat the total this year.
Team members chose the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association as their charity for August and were thrilled to meet representatives from the charity to learn more about their vital work and meet the dogs.
The money raised will contribute to funding special equipment for pups in training, so they can become fully-fledged guide dogs.
Mary Conner, Guide Dogs’ Community Fundraising Development Officer covering the Tamworth area, said, “The money raised at this event will help us provide our life-changing services for people living with sight loss.
“It costs over £55,000 to support a guide dog from birth to retirement and Guide Dogs relies almost entirely on public donations, so we are really grateful to companies like Shire Leasing for supporting us.”
Cliff Knott, chair of Shire’s CSR committee, said, “In many ways, these charities have had some impact on those that choose them. For us, it’s about doing the right thing and showing that we care about our people and the community we operate in. Everyone gets involved. It’s lovely to see.”
Team members donated by taking part in a dress-down day with a suggested contribution, and purchased items sold by the charity that were available on-site.
